About

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing Systems Laboratory (SMART LAB) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada.  I am currently working in Dr. Rafiq Ahmad's research group on intelligent solutions for generative design and robotic manufacturing to automate structural steel prefabrication for offsite construction. I completed my Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University Singapore and B.E. (Honours) from Jadavpur University Kolkata, respectively. I have worked at the Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Visualization Lab under the supervision of Dr. Yiyu Cai at NTU Singapore. My doctoral thesis was on Intelligent Lift Motion Planning for Autonomous Tower Cranes in Dynamic BIM Environments. The primary goal of my research work is the transformation of fundamental yet least automated industries, such as Construction and Agriculture, with functional applications of Intelligent Robotics and Autonomous Systems.
My research philosophy is governed by my approach to tackling all problems from the optimization perspective. Drawing a layout of objectives, constraints, and decision variables provides the important idea of the feasible solution space which can be explored by identifying suitable algorithmic techniques. This helps me to avoid overlooking small but important details, to manage my time and energy well in challenging situations, and to maintain a structural framework for ease of production and publication of results. Consequently, algorithmic development has become the primary principle of my research. Additionally, being a design thinker, I am always inspired by creativity. Challenges in finding a solution to an engineering research problem drive me to combine prior experiences and knowledge in new ways to create a solution. The opportunity to generate new layouts for practical problems and to extend the horizon of knowledge constantly pushes me to conduct more meaningful research, producing effective methodologies for real-world applications.
